Atiku, Tambuwal, Lamido reject Saraki, Mohammed as Northern PDPs Consensus Presidential Candidates

PDP summons NEC meeting Wednesday

Former vice-president Atiku Abubakar; Sokoto State Governor, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido; and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, have rejected the emergence of a former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed as the consensus presidential candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the North.

Atiku, Tambuwal, Lamido, and Hayatu-Deen, who are all PDP presidential aspirants, have also denounced the report of Prof. Ango Abdullahi, which endorsed Saraki and Mohammed as the Norths consensus presidential candidates with the backing of a former military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd).

As the controversy over the northern PDP presidential candidate deepens, the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, at the weekend held an Iftar dinner with presidential aspirants across the political divide at the Old Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja.

This is coming as the PDP yesterday summoned a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for Wednesday this week.

According to an issued statement by the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, all members of the National Executive Committee of our great party are invited to the 96th NEC meeting scheduled to hold at the NEC Hall PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, at 2 p.m.

It was gathered that the NEC meeting, which would take a final decision on the report of the 37-man committee on the zoning of the presidential ticket of the party, was shifted from Thursday last week to Wednesday this week.
